Blog assignment 10

Here is the link to read David Rendall's, "FREAK FACTOR: Discovering Uniqueness by Weakness".

4. Forget It: Don't Try to Fix your Weakness
First off I like the quote that begins this suggestion. "You can't put feathers on a dog and call it a chicken." - Dr. Phil McGraw. What this quote says to me is that no matter how much you may pretend to be something, you cannot change who you really are. I agree with his first point in the fact that it truly is going to be a slow process when we try to fix our areas of weakness. Also along with his second point it can be annoying working on our weaknesses. I feel sometimes bored and annoyed when I am working on my weaknesses that I could be giving my strengths my all. I do not agree however that working on our weaknesses does not improve them. I think that  given enough hard work and effort we can improve ourselves.

1. What's Your Problem?
Again I really like the quote at the beginning of this section. "It's never too late to be who you might have been." - George Eliot. What this quote says to me is that its never too late to change what you want to do in life. There is always time to find happiness and find what your passion is. I like his three basic steps for self-improvement, especially the third one. I have to agree with him on this because if you work on your weaknesses you become stronger and if you build on the strengths that you already have you do not lose anything. At the end of the section he states that the obvious goal of this section is to help and create more rounded people who are good at multiple things.

6. Focus: You Can't Do Both
The quote in this section wasn't as good as the other two but was still not bad. For his first point about humans only having limited resources, I agree to an extent. We can always look to others and increase or enhance our resources. As for his second point I agree with completely. I am a good multitasker but I find I lose focus every now and then when I am working on two things at once. His third point I also completely agree with. Being a well rounded person is good, but sometimes it can stop us from becoming truly great at something. His forth point I actually do not agree with at all. Just because you work to strengthen a weakness does not mean you are losing a strength.

My own personal weakness is coming up with a creative idea. I am a hard worker and am well rounded but coming up with new and inspirational ideas is hard for me. My strength is the opposite of my weakness. Once I have a good idea I will work tirelessly to make it the best it can be.

Me and Andrew's Hero/Villian Animation

Craig and Ryan's Hero/Villain Combination can be found on Craig's blog here

-For whatever reason my computer could not download their animations, but Craig did have them both on his blog.

James and his partners Hero/Villain Combination can be found on James' blog here

Craig and Ryan's Critique

From what I remember from fridays lab when I saw both the hero and villain of Craig and his partners characters I liked what I saw. The one character which I am pretty sure was the villain had a color HUE of black and green. Both of the colors had a darker tone and little BRIGHTNESS. The only brightness I saw was in the green fire which the villain could create. The SATURATION of the colors were closer to black than white on the saturation scale. As for the hero, he had a completely different hue in comparison to the villain. The hero had a blue and white hue and was much more bright than the villain. The saturation of the villain was closer to white on the saturation scale. The CONTRAST of the two characters was most obvious in the hues of the characters. On a SUBCONSCIOUS level you could tell the difference in the hero and the villain because of the brighter colors of the hero vs. the darker colors of the villain.

James and his partners Critique

I liked the whole idea behind the hero and villain concept of James and his partners group project. The SHADOWS of the villain were much more prominent than the hero's shadows to show him as the bad guy. The villain also was SYMBOLIC of evil because he was a tax collector. The MOOD surrounding the villain was one of pure evil because he was taxing all the good people. The hero CONTRASTED with the villain in that his shadows were not at all present to show he was a good guy. He was symbolic of a hero because he planted money trees in places of poverty to allow those who are poor to become rich. The mood surrounding the hero was a happy one because of his bright colors and smile. On a SUBCONSCIOUS level you can just evision that the man wielding the ax is a bad man because it is such a big and mean looking weapon.

JT and his partners Critique

I also liked the villain and hero of the Lawyer and Doctor. The HUE of the hero was light blue and white which is a very neutral color and symbolizes goodness. The hero was also very BRIGHT to show he was a good guy. On the SATURATION scale the hero was definitely more towards the white side than the black side of the scale. For the villain, the hue of his character was black and red. Both colors were not bright at all and were very dark. The saturation was definitely more towards the black scale than the white scale. SUBCONSCIOUSLY we see the bright warm colors of the hero and feel like he is a safer character and thus is the hero. The two characters mainly CONTRASTED on their color schemes, with the hero having warm bright colors and the villain having cold dark colors.

Blog assignment 9A

To reflect on our gaming presentation I think that we had a very unique idea for our video game. Two concepts that I thought that didn't get across to our audience is the leveling up concept of the main character, and the story line of starting out small and taking hormone injections to get bigger and stronger to fight bigger bad guys. The hardest concept to get across to other people, at least to me, are the objectives. To me the objective of the game was easy to figure out and understand but to others i can see how it didn't come across so smoothly. The object of our game was to fight bad guys in every level and at the end of the level you got a hormone injection of steroids which made you bigger and stronger and thus allowing you to fight bigger and stronger enemies until you reach the biggest and strongest boss at the end of the game.

Written Joke Reflection

Our First Video Joke

Our Second Video Joke

To start off the two joke reflections I have to say that I liked both our videos and thought that both of them were very well done. Our first video joke was a star wars parody of sorts. Our second video joke was a silent film like the old Charlie Chapman black and whites. For our first video joke we used the two drivers of the car and how the background went zooming by as they were driving for MOVEMENT. In the second video movement was shown with the back and forth short shots of the two characters on the bikes right before the crash. We used the idea of LINES in the first video by showing the parking lot lines and how they pointed right at the main character. In the second video we used lines by the brick lines in the crash and the before crash scene. SUBCONSCIOUSLY in the first joke you think about the actual star wars movie and try to compare the video joke with the movie. In the second video joke you subconsciously think about the olden days with the no spoken dialog, black and white, the bikes, and the music in the background. The AFFINITY between the two videos was the punch line in the joke about the female saying how she didn't want to drink and would wait for the cops.
